In part five of the Unknown series, Pastor Matt shares about the life of Hannah, in 1 Samuel 1, as a practical example of someone who faced the unknown… and how God carried them from despair to hope!

- Do you have a specific “mode” that you automatically retreat to when you face troubles or an unknown circumstance? Do you plan more so you can control things, sit in despair, become fearful, etc.? Why do you tend to go there? Search Scripture for how God calls us to respond when faced with uncertainty and share with your Life Group.
- Like Hannah, have you ever wondered if a situation that you are going through is the result of living in a sin-cursed world or if it is a divine appointment by God? Do you believe that there is a difference in the way that God works through a trial based on whether it has been allowed or appointed by Him?
- How did Elkanah’s sin in taking a second wife cause pain and grief for his entire family for years to come? What about Eli’s sin? What does this show us about the trickle effects of our own sin?
- Hannah was desperate but she didn’t ask God to change others around her, she didn’t seek revenge, and she didn’t get angry with God. She simply poured out her anguish and desires in a heartfelt way. Read Mark 14:33-36. How did Jesus pray when He too was desperate? What can we learn from their prayers and does this convict you in your own prayer life?
- Read 1 Samuel 1:17-20. Hannah’s joy returned before her prayer was even answered. She presented her request to God and then went along her way in peace because she trusted His answer regardless of what it may be. Do you find yourself living in the peace that surpasses understanding even when you don’t have an answer, or do you live in turmoil awaiting the result you desire? What can we learn from Hannah and apply to our own lives?
- Review the three lessons Pastor Matt wanted us to remember from this week’s sermon and discuss them with your group.
