Wheels for the World
Our Mystery Island Vacation Bible School kids really latched onto our mission project this year! We collected wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, canes, and money to give to children around the world through the Wheels for the World ministry of Joni and Friends.
Joni and Friends is an incredible, hope-filled ministry started by Joni Erickson Tada, a gal who had a diving accident as a teenager and is now a quadriplegic.
The Columbus office for Joni and Friends came to pick up a truckload of wheelchairs, crutches, and walkers on Friday, July 12, 2019. These medical supplies will now travel to a prison in Cleveland, Ohio, where they will be refurbished by prisoners there.
The prisoners will get to hear the good news of Jesus as they find out what will be happening with the medical items they are working on. Then wheelchairs will be distributed all over the world! Each wheelchair recipient receives a custom-fit wheelchair and training in wheelchair use and upkeep. Team members also present each recipient with a Bible and the Gospel message!
And as far as our VBS monetary collection, these incredible kids—who thought up all kinds of creative ways to make and give money—raised enough money for about 30 more pediatric wheelchairs… a total of about $6,500!
The girls brought in a little more than the boys, in case anyone didn’t hear the outcome of the contest, but everyone is a winner with this great giving project!
Thanks to all who participated. Now let’s pray for the boys and girls around the world who will receive these medical supplies, and also for the prisoners who are preparing them.
