The Three Chairs

Ken Harrell
Senior Pastor
We sit in chairs every day. Chances are you’ve got all different types around your house. But what you may not realize is that each and every day you are choosing to sit in a spiritual chair. There are three different chairs for you to choose from, and the choice is completely up to you. But the thing you’ve got to keep in mind is that your choice will have consequences.
“Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…” —Joshua 24:15
Take Away / Application
Pursuing total commitment to Jesus and seeing every area of our life impacted by Him!
Discussion Questions
Don’t be afraid to add to this list, skip questions that don’t work for your group or branch off with additional questions as discussion unfolds. Conversation is key! This is the time to work through the application of scripture and have group members figure things out together.
Chair 1 – Total Commitment
- Read Joshua 24:14–15.
- Discuss the struggles, benefits, practical assets, etc. of living in such a way where Jesus is our life, not just part of our life?
- Discuss filtering everything in your life through your commitment to Jesus.
Chair 2 – Saved But Carnal
- Read Revelation 3:15–17.
- We can know Jesus but live a life of continual compromise not allowing Him to be Lord overall. Discuss.
- When we sit or slide into this chair we want to do things for the Lord, but we want to do more for ourselves. What are ways to overcome this mindset and way of living to get back to the first chair?
Chair 3 – Lost And Natural
- Read Judges 2:10.
- Each of us knows people in this third chair, how can you boldly begin showing Jesus to this person?
Accountability
- Where are you in God’s Word and what is He teaching you?
- Are you meeting with the Lord in prayer each day?
