Only Jesus

Ken Harrell
Senior Pastor
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given…” Isaiah wrote this prophecy about a baby who had yet to come. But while there were countless babies born, this prophecy was fulfilled in just one… “Only Jesus.”

Discussion Questions
Don’t be afraid to add to this list, skip questions that don’t work for your group, or branch off with additional questions as discussion unfolds. Conversation is key! This is the time to work through the application of scripture and have group members figure things out together.
- Read Isaiah 9:6–7. How does it impact or strengthen your faith to read Isaiah’s comments about Christ’s coming when it was written approximately 700 years before it took place?
- Imagine waiting 700 years for a promise of deliverance to come to pass. We’ve all prayed for wisdom, direction, healing, etc., and had to wait on the Lord’s response. What does this example teach us about waiting on the Lord and His faithfulness to stay true to His promises?
- Have you ever doubted the virgin birth of Jesus? If so, how did you overcome that doubt? How would you explain the truth of Jesus’ birth to someone who doubts it?
- Jesus came to this earth as a baby, but we must remember that Jesus is everlasting. He was present with the Father before He ever stepped foot on this earth, and He’s in heaven today. Has viewing Jesus as a baby ever caused you to potentially diminish His deity?
- Read Isaiah 9:6. This verse describes how Jesus will be called “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” These names point to His wonder, wisdom, power, worship, and comfort. How have you personally seen Jesus fulfill each of these names? Which of these resonates with you the most and why?
- Read Philippians 4:6–7 and Romans 5:1. Only Jesus can give true, personal, everlasting peace. Where in your life do you need the peace of Jesus today?
- Christmas is typically a busy season for many of us. As you examine your heart, how are you preparing yourself for Christmas? Are you more focused on Jesus or the to-do lists that “have” to be done?
- Are you ready for Christ’s return when He comes back to rule in His rightful place? What about those who you love? What can you do today to prepare for this glorious return or to help others prepare?
Accountability
- Where are you reading in the Bible this week? What has God been revealing to you through your quiet time with Him?
- Discuss any struggles you may be going through with your group.
- How can you be praying for your group this week? How can they be praying for you?
