Discussion Questions
Don’t be afraid to add to this list, skip questions that don’t work for your group, or branch off with additional questions as discussion unfolds. Conversation is key! This is the time to work through the application of scripture and have group members figure things out together.
- Pastor began by describing the state of our nation and world over the past two years. How have you dealt with the changing times and situations that have occurred recently? Has this caused fear and concern in your life?
- Fear can be productive or destructive. What does productive fear look like vs. destructive? How should you determine which category your fear belongs to when you come across it?
- Read Matthew 25:14–30. What result did the fearful servant’s actions yield? How does this differ from the two who were not bound by their fear? What can we learn from this parable?
- Review 2 Timothy 1:7 along with your sermon notes from this week. What are the three weapons God provides to free us from fear? Discuss practical ways to implement these principles?
- Is there an area or topic in your life that produces more fear than others? If so, reflect on the reasons why and discuss with your group. How can you leverage the weapons from 2 Timothy and the power, love, and sound mind God gives, to free you from those fears? How can your group support you?
- Read Matthew 25:25. How does fear consume us and make us ineffective? Has there ever been a time when fear made you ineffective? What actions or thoughts led you to that outcome? How might have the situation been different if you engaged your faith? What does it look like for you to engage your faith?
- Read Isaiah 12:2 again. How does this verse provide you with the utmost confidence in facing your fears? If you are struggling with fear today, memorize this verse.
Accountability
- Where are you reading in the Bible this week and what is God revealing to you?
- Discuss any struggles you may be going through with your group.
- How can you be praying for your group this week? How can they be praying for you?
